How this conversion works

This calculator uses a simple, gross pay conversion — no unpaid time or expenses factored in. It's the quickest way to sanity-check what a salary works out to per hour, or what an hourly rate adds up to per year.

Hourly = Annual salary ÷ (Weekly hours × Working weeks/year) Annual = Hourly rate × Weekly hours × Working weeks/year

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert salary to hourly rate?
Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year (hours per week multiplied by the number of weeks you work per year). For a standard 40-hour week worked 52 weeks a year, divide your annual salary by 2,080.
What if I don't work 52 weeks a year?
Adjust the "working weeks per year" field. If you take unpaid time off, use fewer weeks; if your salary already covers paid vacation, most people still use 52.
Is this the same as my effective hourly rate?
No. This is a simple, gross conversion between salary and hourly pay. For a rate that also accounts for commute time, unpaid breaks, and work costs, use the Effective Hourly Rate Calculator.
